Legacy of Luck Druid Brooch Series #3 edition by Christy Nicholas Literature Fiction eBooks
After having read book one and two, I was very happy (again) to read #3. Legacy of Luck had a good amount of adventure, romance, and character development. It follows the story of two main characters, with special attention to the detail of the historical setting, the Traveler culture, and the social mores of the time. It isn’t your typical love story, and has some twists and turns. The light touch of fairy magic through the tale was delicate and believable, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more!Small Spoiler: I found myself being quite sympathetic to one of the ‘villains’ in the end, as he turned out to have a much stronger character than previously shown!

Legacy of Luck Druid Brooch Series #3 edition by Christy Nicholas Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
*Review as also seen on .ca
Full disclosure I was given a copy of Legacy of Luck before its release for promotional and review purposes. I have since bought the ebook to support Christy Nicholas, we are friends, and I have a tendency to enjoy her writing.
With all that out of the way, these are my thoughts.
I did not love Legacy of Luck. Its setting did not draw me in and its characters observed each others' eye-colour just a little too often. And that is the worst I can say about it. Our leads are both full of personality and multidimensional, with goals and motives and, oft as not, secrets. They are quirky, believably-superstitious, intriguing, curiosity-inducing and though I did not like the story they were in, I liked them (except for one in particular).
The writing is just this side of flawless. The descriptions of things, though not necessarily things I would notice myself, were above adequate and made each scene picturesque in itself. I'm sure for someone who is interested in Irish and Scottish history, this story would present an pleasant ride through familiar and strange places alike.
As someone who is more familiar with Middle-Earth than "Normal" Earth, I found many of the places, names, and distances hard to figure. A good, old-fashioned-looking map with all the significant locations highlighted would go a long way to helping me understand the gravity of the situation.
I suggest if you, a potential reader, are considering this book, familiarise yourself with the general shape of Ireland and Scotland, as well as some of their history, or folktales.
I hope you find this story more suited to your needs than I did.
I received this books for from the author, but this is a freely given, honest review.
Ok, so I'll preface this by saying that I love love love books about Scotland and Ireland, especially when set in this time period. But, since I am a bit obsessed, I have pretty high standards for the world building that goes into these books.
That's why I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't exactly know what it was going to be about when I started it. All I knew was that is had an absolutely gorgeous cover. I wasn't disappointed. Scene setting is this author's strength. You feel like your there on that countryside trying to save a girl from a horrible fate.
It starts off rather slow and takes some getting in to, but once you do, it won't let you go. The characters are more like caricatures of real people, rather than fully developed people themselves, but it worked tremendously for this kind of book. They're incredibly earnest and easy to root for. By the end, I wanted them all to win, even Lochlan. Not his brother though. Ugh - I hated him. But that was the point.
It's written in a very different style than I usually read, which takes some getting used to, but that isn't a bad thing because I ended up enjoying the uniqueness tremendously.
Legacy of Luck is the third in the Druid’s Brooch series, though also works very well as a stand-alone story. Christy Nicholas clearly knows her stuff when it comes to this time in history and Irish folklore. The book was fairly well written, except for scattered typos or editing mistakes toward the end, and had the qualities of a classic novel in many aspects.
My favorite part of the story was definitely the elements of Fae magic and Traveler legends. Despite the fantasy aspects, Nicholas did a fantastic job of weaving in elements of both reality and folklore in such a way that every bit of it was believable. I felt swept into the possibilities, the sparks of light, and wistfully imagining it was real.
Overall, I also enjoyed the characters and the different dynamics I could understand their individual points of view, backgrounds, and personalities which then made their decisions fit and logical.
The main complaint I had was that I felt the plot moved rather slowly at times and there wasn’t much in the area of character growth and development. I felt the characters were mostly the same except for small changes throughout the story, except perhaps the sharp turn of events toward the end with two of the main ones. There were several moments where I was quite frustrated with the turn of events as they played out.
Admittedly, I’m a hopeless romantic. I could accept that the events were realistic and the most likely outcome of the events had they been real situations. Yet I was still left wanting when I saw the characters suffering helplessly with no apparent light at the end of the tunnel. However, I will also say that this frustration pushed my curiosity on how it would end and spurred me onward.
This book had a great blend of real and fantasy elements that made it feel like a well-written classic and simultaneously a modern historical tale. If you enjoy stories surrounding folklore and adventure, this is definitely for you.
I give it 3.8 out of 5 stars due to the slowness at times and the editing mistakes scattered throughout.
I was asked to review this book.
I kept hoping there would be more to the story but it left me waning
I have read ever novel she has written and am lucky enough to own three items of Christy Nicholas jewelry
