A self-described boy scout, Don Jamieson dedicated his life to being a devoted family man and perfect G. E. executive. Retired and financially secure, he thinks he has it made. Then he meets Sarah. Like many women her age, Sarah has come through some tough times with the help of women friends who tell it like it is yet are always on her side. Sarah pursues a life of excitement, travel, and society and her sense of adventure and sense of joy radiate. Don finds himself craving a different life, one in which he can fully explore the sexual passion and intense joy that Sarah sparks inside him. Even as they struggle with the conflict generated by their clandestine relationship, Don and Sarah are intoxicated by the wealth of possibilities suddenly within reach. From the heat of Austin, Texas to the snow-covered peaks of Aspen, Colorado, this contemporary novel is a poignant reminder of life as a joyous adventure throughout all the stages of a life well-lived.

I bought this book on a Friday and had it read by Sunday. Not unusual for the ordinary reader, but I tend to read slowly.
The story of Don and Sarah gripped me from beginning to end...leaving me wanting to hear more.
I understand this is a debut novel by Pat Brown...I'm waiting for the next one.

Sometimes Pat Brown 9781439252727 Books Reviews

This wonderful book was a real page turner! A wonderfully descriptive book where the characters came to life and made you want to learn more about their lives! We can only hope the next book from Pat Brown will be coming out soon - Highly recommend this read!
Had so much fun reading Pat Brown's Sometimes and strongly recommend it, not just for us "women of a certain age", but for all interested in creating a life that we love, at all the ages of our life........about choosing adventure, safety, passion, just sitting around waiting for Prince Charming, how to fit in work and friendship and family, about the consequences of those choices. And about the consequences of refusing to choose.
The focus of the book is on Sarah and Don, from their first meeting in Austin to several years later, their lives together and apart, starting with the thrills and chills of getting to know one another, traveling together, then juggling, well, the complications that arise. But it is not just a romance, as fun as that is, also an exploration of friendship, health and work and travel, relationships between sisters, mothers, daughters. Sarah also has such cool women friends that I wish the author had told even more of their stories -- especially the warm witty Marlene, and the exotic fascinating Abeba, adventurous Janet -- perhaps in the next book?
So don't think of this book as merely a romance story between sixty-somethings, though come to think of it, why aren't there more stories where the central characters are sixty-somethings? and beyond?
Loved the sense of place in the descriptions of Aspen and Austin, Houston to East Texas, New York to Provence. Especially evocative were the descriptions of downhill skiing. The word pictures that the author paints of icey jagged peaks and gliding through the aspens or barreling straight down the mountain trails beneath snow weighted pine branches are a mental mini-vacation, just as reading about mountain climbing is a great vicarious thrill, even if you think it would be totally crazy to go out and actually do such a thing
Each chapter starts with a line from a song that relates to the mood and events, as well as delightully taking the reader back to well, wherever and whatever person you were back when you first heard that song -- Van Morrison, Sting, Hank Williams, Lucinda Williams, Leonard Cohen, Patsy Cline, Mick Jagger. I flipped back through the title chapters after I finished the book just to relive those times.
Buy it. Read it. And hoping that Pat Brown writes the next chapters in the lives of Sarah and Friends. soon.
The author is my sister. It shows older people can find love. I did get mad at part of it.
Good book easy read
