I'm only halfway through reading this via Kindle Unlimited, and already want it in my permanent library. Common sense is less common today than ever, but remains abundant in this short book. It covers a lot of the same ground as This Is Political Philosophy: An Introduction (This is Philosophy) which I also just reviewed equally favorably, except at much lower purchase price and with only a single point of view favored, rather than trying to be fair to them all. Fortunately for me, thus far I entirely agree with this book's hidden author on its major points.I'll update once I've finished reading, but am posting this now since there are no other reviews yet, and the book is far too good not to have one.
Update: OK finished. The book is an excellent read throughout, explaining clearly the "why" of our political system, and what makes its original design better in the author's opinion than current alternative systems. The only area of weakness I noticed was in its overly-short final effort to prescribe solutions to trends it sees as ill-advised. For instance, it recommends young persons who agree with its premise to consider careers in education, media or popular culture, despite being likely to find a cold welcome there, but doesn't suggest older wealthier folks who agree using their wealth to fund such efforts, nor identify groups it considers on the side of the angels in such efforts. It also omits mention of the various ways diluting the vote via fraud or enrolling new voters who lack reasons not to vote themselves ever more benefits to be paid for by others can harm its preferred future for our country.
Overal, still highly recommended.l
